Kindle will land on Australia’s shores October 19th

The popular Amazon Kindle has been unavailable outside the US since it’s launch, however Amazon announced recently that they have plans to bring the popular ebook reader to Australia by October 19.  Amazon will start shipping the international version for a price of $239USD with most of the Kindle range available at launch. Amazon has failed to mention if the no-pc download service avaliable in the US will carry over here, although we hope so, especially with Telstra’s 3G coverage.

Chime Brings Twitter SMS to Aussies

NOTE: Twitter and Telstra have partnered and Twitter is now available for those Australians with Telstra. Chime is still a great alternative for those on other networks.

Twitter has always had an sms update feature, for those in the us and uk, at least. But until recently, the only way for us over here in Australia to update twitter is via the international number, wich can be pretty expensive. That’s where chime comes in. Chime is a twitter SMS service for Australians, and it’s free: all you pay for is the cost of sending a local sms. We’ll road test chime after the break, but first… here’s the links:

ABC wants free iView on the NBN

When it comes around, ABC wants the national broadband network to carry its iView service for free. The iView service is available for free on some broadband providers (iiNet, Internode, Primus etc), but is metered on others, most notably Telstra’s Bigpond and Optus internet. ABC wants the NBN to be legally obligated to carry its content for free. Neither Optus nor Telstra have commented on the subject.
