What’s on your iPad?

overview_homescreen_20100225 For those that know me, it isn’t really a secret that I want one of Apple’s now famous iPad. It was released here not all that long ago, and I’ve already built up a list of apps that I want if I ever get to own one. But, what I want to know is – what apps do you like, or think looks interesting, for the iPad. I want to hear your thoughts. Comment below, you don’t need an iPad, just an App that looks interesting.

So, what are you waiting for? Comment!

iPhone OS 4 almost jailbroken

A Canadian hacker by the name of ‘iH8sn0w’ (assumed not to be his real name) has already cracked Apple’s iPhone OS 4.0, before it has even been released. He managed to unlock the Beta version of the OS, which was released to developers after the announcement yesterday. He hasn’t actually jailbroken iPhone OS 4, but he says it is possible.

Exploring Tech contacted iH8sn0w regarding the status of the hack and we were told that the root filesystem key needs to be decrypted, and then it’s just a matter of simple patching. I’m not too sure what that actually means, but if I was to hazard a guess, it would be that a jailbreak for iPhone OS 4 is just on the horizon.

iPhone OS 4.0 has a bunch of long awaited features.

Today’s iPhone OS 4.0 event introduced a couple of well needed features including App folders, to organise your apps; A game center, much like Xbox live; Wireless keyboard support, like on the iPad; iBooks for the iPhone; an enhanced mail app; and multitasking – finally!

The multitasking does seem a bit limited though, and there will only be multitasking of the iPhone 3GS and the 3rd Gen iPod Touch, anything below doesn’t have the hardware.

The new iPhone OS will be released in the US summer for iPhones, and in the US Fall for iPads.

If you want to learn more, Engadget attended the event.

HP slate the new iPad contender?

Mere days after the release of Apple’s long awaited tablet PC – the iPad; Documents have been leaked from HP depicting their contender, the ‘HP Slate’. Not the most inventive name, we know, but it doesn’t carry the feminine hygiene pun that has been carried by the iPad since it’s announcement. But what else does this tablet have over Apple’s latest creation?

Early iPad adopters reporting overheating, bad WiFi

Early adopters of Apple’s new iPad have started reporting the first issues that come with all new hardware. Users are complaining about bad WiFi ranges, with connections dropping out and fluctuating between strong and weak, despite their laptops showing a consistently strong signal.

Although Apple may be able to fix those issues with a firmware update, less promising is the overheating issue that causes the iPad to simply shut down and tell the user it ‘needs to cool down’ when used in the sun.

We’re hoping that these incidents are isolated, and that Apple will correct them before the iPad hits us in Australia, because I really want an iPad, not an eternally hot brick with crappy WiFi.

EDIT: Looks like apple has released a support article dealing with the issue.

Apple tablet comes to fruition, with a name no-one expected.

safari_20100127 Apple’s Slate has finally come out in the form of the iPad. It really looks like a bit of a disappointment at first glance, as it looks like a scaled-up iPhone, and at second and third glance, it turns out that that is all it is. It’s a big iPhone. It’s got the GPS, the compass, the Wi-Fi, the iPod, the Safari and even the OS of the iPhone. It’s an iPhone with a 9.7 inch display. It does look cool though…

EDIT: It’s not even an iPhone, it’s an iPod Touch! But I do want one…
