DestroyTwitter gets upgraded. Welcome to 2.0

DestroyTwitter (previously described here as the simple twitter client) has had an update. After about a year of 0n and off development, version 2 of Jonnie Hallman’s esteemed twitter client  is finally here, and the update brings a few features that we’ve really been holding out for. (more…)

Twitter acquires Tweetie for iPhone, will release official Twitter app

Twitter announced today that they have acquired Atebits‘ iPhone twitter client ‘Tweetie‘. The app, which will be renamed ‘Twitter for iPhone’ and released for free in the App Store, is one of the most popular iPhone twitter clients available.

The developer of Tweetie for iPhone, Loren Brichter, is joining forces with the Twitter team, and is joining their mobile team, but what does this mean for the future of twitter clients? For the most part, they are not concerned. Gedeon Maheux, a developer of popular twitter client Twitterrific says that they “have no intent on changing [their] development plans” and that “Twitterrific and it’s many customers are being supported as they always have been”, which is good news, as an official app could potentially kill off all third party apps.

With Twitter now having an official iPhone app, will we see competitors in the market drop? What do you think will hapen?

iPhone OS 4.0 has a bunch of long awaited features.

Today’s iPhone OS 4.0 event introduced a couple of well needed features including App folders, to organise your apps; A game center, much like Xbox live; Wireless keyboard support, like on the iPad; iBooks for the iPhone; an enhanced mail app; and multitasking – finally!

The multitasking does seem a bit limited though, and there will only be multitasking of the iPhone 3GS and the 3rd Gen iPod Touch, anything below doesn’t have the hardware.

The new iPhone OS will be released in the US summer for iPhones, and in the US Fall for iPads.

Photoshop Tip: Make zoom to print size work

If you are at all familiar with Adobe Photoshop, then you should know about the zoom level ‘Print Size’. But have you ever noticed that it doesn’t usually scale your document to the real size it will print at. What’s the point of it all then? After the jump, we will show you the incredibly easy way to make this useful option work.

Wingows 7 has a God Mode, does not do what you think.

Despite the name of this ‘mode’, this windows 7 hack won’t give you almighty powers. It will, however, create a folder that allows you to edit all your computers settings from one place. It can do everything from adding a printer to reformatting your hard drive – and more. Simple How To after the break.

Google Chrome OS Released

Google today released a preview of the Google Chrome OS…

I don’t have much to say at this point, except that I’ll probably do a review of it over the next couple of days…

Also, there’s a great article detailing the installation of it in a virtual machine at http://www.techcrunch.com/2009/11/19/guide-install-google-chrome-os/

Windows Live Writer

Windows_Live_Writer  Windows Live Writer is Microsoft’s answer to blogging from your desktop, and from what I can see, it works pretty well. The interface is clean and simple, and it can detect your blog’s theme, so you can see what your post will look like on the web (although the sidebar or header isn’t shown whilst writing, you can see it in preview mode). It supports most of the popular blogging platforms including Blogger and WordPress. Windows Live writer is easy to use, clean and simple, and makes for a great blog publishing platform.

DestroyTwitter: A Simple twitter client

This post has been updated. A new version of DestroyTwitter is out, and you can check out our review of the Twitter Client here

Contrary to what you might think, DestroyTwitter isn’t a plan to bring down microblogging. No, DestroyTwitter is a cross-platform Twitter client designed to run on the Adobe AIR platform. And run well it does. Setup is a breeze, simply enter your Twitter username and password and you are immediately presented with a home screen not dissimilar in function to that of the Twitter homepage at first glance, but way more powerful once you get under the hood, and it looks better, especially since DestroyTwitter can be customized with themes. From the home tab you can tweet by opening the tweet panel. This simple panel is quite useful;  it can shorten links using a variety of services and  include photos. Plus there is a handy feature that allows you to shorten those slightly-too-long tweets. But, (to sound like and infomercial), that’s not all. DestroyTwitter includes Search, people search, the ability to follow people. Pretty much evrything you can do at Twitter’s homepage, and more. You will never have to visit twitter.com again.

DestroyTwitter is freeware and runs on Adobe AIR under Windows, Mac or Linux.

EDIT: The developer of DestroyTwitter has halted development. It is still a great twitter client, and is still available for download. Unfortunately, development stopped before a couple of cool features could be added. Exploring Tech recommends TweetDeck as a replacement for those who need more functionality.

EDIT: DestroyTwitter development has started again, and version 2.0 is out. You can check out the full review from Exploring Tech about version 2 here

Firefox 3.5: Two Problems

Okay, so I just upgraded firefox to FF 3.5 and pretty much immediately noticed two things that bugged me. It seems firefox has decided to take the Internet Explorer approach to tabs: Now, there is a “new tab” button attached to the last tab, and (most annoyingly) when you have only one tab open, there is no close button. Luckily, after a bit of searching, I found the solutions. (more…)
