Apple tablet comes to fruition, with a name no-one expected.
Apple’s Slate has finally come out in the form of the iPad. It really looks like a bit of a disappointment at first glance, as it looks like a scaled-up iPhone, and at second and third glance, it turns out that that is all it is. It’s a big iPhone. It’s got the GPS, the compass, the Wi-Fi, the iPod, the Safari and even the OS of the iPhone. It’s an iPhone with a 9.7 inch display. It does look cool though…

I wanted one. Note the wantED.
I sold my 7″ EeePC netbook recently, in the “knowledge” that Apple would announce the iSlate - and hopefully updated MacBook Pros - at the event. I have saved my pennies for months, anticipating getting my very first Apple laptop, a MacBook Pro 13″. I even got up at 4:15am this morning to watch the live coverage of the event.
Boy was I disappointed.
Sure, the iPad (what a stupid name?!?) is cool - but it *is* an iPod touch on steroids, nothing more. *sigh*
I guess I’ll be waiting until Apple finally decides to focus on it’s roots - the Mac. This iPhone/iPod/iPad frenzy has become distracting, and Apple have shifted their focus to these devices instead
It’s a shame, because they all need a Mac (or PC) to sync… And iTunes gets more bloated with each version, needing a more and more powerful computer. Counter-productive, IMO.
does it require a stylus/pen like other writing slates or is it just like the iphone and finger tip sensitive??
It, like the iPhone, uses a capacitive touch screen - so it’s finger-only (or some of those expensive iPhone styluses)
